Ecological
Organization PALÍBER, Coordinator
and promoter of the Greenmeeting of the Americas, the
GREENMEETING is an environmental organization, non-governmental,
non-profit, founded in 1990, public utility with headquarters in
Brasília-DF. It has numerous activities carried out in several
States, mainly regarding forest preservation and its
biodiversity, water resources, wild and marine
fauna,
as well as studies on climate change.
It was invited to participate
in
Rio'92
by the United Nations, United
Nations Conference on Environment and Development, acting in
several preparatory commissions. Participated in
Habitat
II 96, Istanbul, Turkey,United
Nations Conference on Human Settlements, denominated World
Urban Forum. |

Participated, acknowledged by the
United Nations, in the Johannesburg Summit 2002,
Rio
+ 10, in South Africa. |

With the
participation of over two thousand people and the
presence of representatives from several continents,
besides political leaders, governmental and
non-governmental on the field of Environment and
Sustainable Development, the V Greenmeeting of the
Americas, surpassed all expectations, as it has been
happening over the years. The opening of the
meeting,
in 20th September 2005, with people even
sat on the floor and on the stairs of the great
theater Sesiminas, in
Belo
Horizonte,
demonstrated the relevance of the event and the
increasingly interest social-environmental issues
provoke on society. At the opening, the
general
coordinator of the
meeting
and Paliber president director, Ademar
Soares,
emphasized that the |

|
indifference of
governments and society to environmental issues is
responsible for severe
consequences to humanity existence.
Time
is passing by and that is the
major
menace, for days will come when entire generations will pay
the price for our irresponsibility to the climatic
conditions of the planet, he added. |

The
Rio
de Janeiro hosted the III and IV Green Meeting of the
Americas, a disputed and
important socio-environmental event, gathering a select group of
authorities and governmental and non-governmental personalities from
various continents.
The
III Green Meeting of the Americas was held this past September 8th,
9th, and 10th, in the BNDES convention center in Rio
de Janeiro, Brazil.

The
Green Prize of the Americas,
announced at the opening ceremonies of the II Green Meeting of the
Americas, hosted by Palíber in Belo Horizonte, MG – Brazil.
The award was given out not only to honor the recipient, but
also motivate the many people who have dedicated so much of their
effort in favor of the environment and the quality of life on the
planet. |

International
Green Court
– During the course of the two Meeting of the Americas, the idea
of creating an International Green Court was discussed.
The topic is currently being studied and is open for debate
or suggestions from governmental and non-governmental environmental
organizations. |

The
main theme of Green Newsletter of the Americas – 2002, the result
of the last event, was the Green Court.
The Green Court seeks to analyze, discuss and delve into the
factors and events that threaten the environmental balance of the
planet.
It will also work to contain the increase of carbon gases, as
well as the contamination of the environment by chemicals and
radioactive waste.

Green Meeting of the
Americas
– In order to welcome a new century and the beginning of a new
millenium, the Americas, and the world, held two summits for Life,
Peace and the Environment.
These summits were the Green Meeting of the Americas, held in
Brazil in 2001 in the city of Brasilia-DF, and in Belo Horizonte in
2003. |

Meeting were dedicated to the quest for union of the countries of
the continents in the search of solutions to the many direct and
indirect environmental problems threatening the quality of life, for
both present and future generations.

“Brazil
in XXI Century” Conference,
held in Minascentro on May 26-27,
1999,
in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais.
The conference brought together the most important
environmental leaders from around the country, including the
Minister of the Environment, José Sarney Filho, Alfredo Sirkis –
Green Party, Federal Rep. Ronaldo Vasconcellos, José Carlos
Carvalho – Executive Secretary of MMA, Tilden Santiago –
Secretary of Environment-MG, Edson Zenóbio – Estado de Minas (newspaper),
Hiram Firmino – Ecological Newletter, Ademar Leal Soares –
President of Palíber and Juarez Amorim – Secretary of the
Environment-Belo Horizonte.

It
has developed such important programs as the creation of APA – Vau-Açu Ecological
Reserve – in the state of Minas Gerais, reserving 302 hectares
of Atlantic Rain Forest – a well-preserved piece of forest with
large and medium-size trees, various species of animals and birds,
waterfalls and water sources. |

The
principal goals of the events hosted by PALÍBER are to increase
environmental awareness, to find solutions to the increasing
environmental problems threatening many regions of the planet, as
well as reducing the causes of poverty.
